TOM MERRITT: Coming up, find
out the secrets of author
00:00:03
Or is she Megan Lindholm?
00:00:06
VERONICA BELMONT: Well,
Tom, she's both.
00:00:08
I'm just excited she gets
to meet our dragon.
00:00:10
And I get to meet her! "Sword
and Laser's" author guide to
00:00:12
Robin Hobb starts now.
00:00:28
VERONICA BELMONT: Hello,
everybody.
00:00:28
Welcome to "The Sword and
Laser." I'm Veronica Belmont.
00:00:31
TOM MERRITT: I'm Tom Merritt.
00:00:32
VERONICA BELMONT: It was getting
a little dicey in
00:00:34
there for a second.
00:00:34
TOM MERRITT: Yeah.
00:00:35
VERONICA BELMONT: This is one
of our author guide episodes
00:00:36
where we invite an author up to
the Space Castle, ask them
00:00:39
your questions and ours, and let
you know all about their
00:00:41
TOM MERRITT: Uh, don't
faint, OK?
00:00:42
VERONICA BELMONT: Why?
00:00:43
TOM MERRITT: Because this is
our guide to Robin Hobb.
00:00:45
VERONICA BELMONT: [SQUEAL]
00:00:45
TOM MERRITT: I know she's
one of your heroes.
00:00:47
Is your face going to
stay like that?
00:00:49
Are you going to be OK?
00:00:50
VERONICA BELMONT: I'm
super excited.
00:00:50
No, she really is one of
my favorite authors.
00:00:52
TOM MERRITT: All right.
00:00:52
VERONICA BELMONT: It's going
to be a lot of fun.
00:00:53
TOM MERRITT: Well, let's
get started.
00:00:53
VERONICA BELMONT: All right.
00:01:01
VERONICA BELMONT: Robin Hobb
is the pseudonym of Megan
00:01:03
Lindholm, which is also
something of a pseudonym since
00:01:06
her full name is Margaret
Astrid Lindholm Ogden.
00:01:09
She uses both names to
distinguish the type of
00:01:11
fantasy she's writing in
that particular book.
00:01:14
TOM MERRITT: She wrote
exclusively as Megan Lindholm
00:01:16
from 1983 to 1992, telling
contemporary fantasy stories.
00:01:21
In 1995, she began publishing
under the name Robin Hobb,
00:01:24
telling epic traditional,
European, medieval, and
00:01:27
American frontier fantasy.
00:01:29
VERONICA BELMONT: And
interestingly, her most recent
00:01:31
release, "The Inheritance," is
a collection of short fiction
00:01:33
written under both names.
00:01:35
She was born in Oakland,
California--
00:01:38
raised in Alaska, and attended
college at Denver University.
00:01:41
TOM MERRITT: After getting
married, she moved to the
