L'effet Spangler - Aux confins de l'espace Saison 01 Épisode 14

00:00:00
STEVE SPANGLER: Well, it's happening according to plan.
00:00:01
We're launching our big weather balloon in the middle
00:00:03
of Denver, which is fantastic.
00:00:06
10,000 screaming kids, and the balloon's ready to go up.
00:00:10
10 minutes.
00:00:11
It's going to be good.
00:00:16
I'm Steve Spangler, and I'm all about making science fun.
00:00:19
For the last 20 years, I've been teaching ways to turn
00:00:22
ordinary science experiments into unforgettable learning
00:00:25
experiences.
00:00:26
I have an amazing team who will do whatever it takes to
00:00:29
affect the way people think about science.
00:00:32
And do that, I live by one motto--
00:00:34
"Make it big, do it right, give it class."
00:00:43
[MUSIC PLAYING]
00:00:47
STEVE MEER: This is Edge of Space Sciences.
00:00:49
And today's flight is flight number 175.
00:01:17
LARRY NOBLE: OK, we have a PVC nozzle, which has been turned
00:01:20
on a lathe.
00:01:21
It's specially designed.
00:01:23
It fits in the balloon and neck.
00:01:26
So when this bag starts lifting off the ground, we
00:01:29
know we have sufficient helium in the balloon to lift the
00:01:33
entire payload string to the edge of space.
00:01:37
[MUSIC PLAYING]
00:01:51
MALE SPEAKER: Are you ready to get started?
00:01:56
All right.
00:01:56
Well, we're going to bring him up right now and introduce to
00:01:58
you Steve Spangler.
00:02:00
[CROWD CHEERING]
00:02:04
STEVE SPANGLER: Welcome, everybody.
00:02:05
You know, meteorologists have the coolest tools nowadays.
00:02:09
They've got all this tracking device and everything else.
00:02:12
But believe it or not, a long time ago, all they had was a
00:02:15
simple balloon.
00:02:16
So here is what a weather balloon looks like.
00:02:20
Kids, you want one of these for your birthday.
00:02:22
Just ask mom and dad, all right?
00:02:24
[CHEERING]
00:02:25
STEVE SPANGLER: Say, mom and dad, can I please have a
00:02:27
weather balloon and about $500 of helium?
00:02:30
It'll be awesome, right?
00:02:32
The mere fact that I just unrolled this means that they
00:02:35
probably can't launch this.
00:02:36
We'll only use it for teaching purposes, because that balloon
00:02:39
is so delicate.
00:02:40
I told you early on that we partnered up with Edge of
00:02:43
Space Science.
00:02:45
Kathy is on the field right now with our team from Edge of
00:02:47
Space Science.
