KRISTEN RUTHERFORD: See
now, here we go.
00:00:02
We're staring awkwardly.
00:00:04
And we usually have Mike
Phirman here to
00:00:06
play a little ditty.
00:00:07
Usually what happens is Mike
Phirman scoots out of frame,
00:00:11
and then he plays
a little song.
00:00:13
And then he comes back in,
and it's really awkward.
00:00:15
So I'm sorry, everybody.
00:00:17
Welcome to #parent.
00:00:18
We have no Mike Phirman this
week, because he is on the
00:00:21
JoCo Crazy Cruise.
00:00:22
So don't feel bad for him.
00:00:23
He's probably having
an amazing time.
00:00:25
I feel like everybody that I
know is on that cruise, and
00:00:28
I'm just kind of left here
holding down the fort.
00:00:31
CHRIS BARTON: You're
stuck with us.
00:00:33
KRISTEN RUTHERFORD:
But you know what?
00:00:35
Yeah, I'm stuck with
some awesome--
00:00:37
This is going to be our
Kid Lit episode.
00:00:39
We're going to talk
about some books.
00:00:40
Last week we talked about games,
and I feel like I came
00:00:43
away with a huge list of
amazing games from the
00:00:46
fabulous Wil and Anne Wheaton.
00:00:47
And so I thought that a nice
thing to do, maybe a little
00:00:53
bit of a punishment to Mike, is
to have some really very,
00:00:56
very cool kid lit authors on
to talk about some of our
00:01:00
favorite books to
read to kids.
00:01:02
I have with me tonight Melissa
Wiley, who happens to not only
00:01:07
be an amazing author--
00:01:08
I like to call her beloved
children's
00:01:11
author, Melissa Wiley.
00:01:13
She is also the godmother
of my daughter Vivian.
00:01:16
We went to college together.
00:01:17
We've known each other for ages,
even though it's amazing
00:01:21
how we don't look old at all.
00:01:27
And this is the way I describe
Melissa is--
00:01:29
I call her Lissa.
00:01:30
She calls me Krissie.
00:01:31
So we're probably going to
call each other Lissa and
00:01:32
Krissie, so everybody
just deal with that.
00:01:34
But I like to always say, oh,
she's the author of the
00:01:38
"Little House on the
Prairie" books.
00:01:39
And people sort of look at me,
and I'm like, no, no, no.
00:01:41
Not the ones that Laura
Ingalls Wilder wrote.
00:01:42
I'm not a total moron.
00:01:48
No, no, I wrote all the
"Little House on
00:01:49
the Prairie" books.
00:01:51
But her latest books are
on constant, heavy
