00:00:22
I am Pete Devine. I am
the Education Coordinator

				00:00:24
				for the Yosemite Association

				00:00:26
				here in Yosemite
National Park,

				00:00:27
				on a nice wintry
day with snowfall.

				00:00:30
				You can hear Yosemite
Falls in the background,

				00:00:33
				just off to my right,
and the Merced River,

				00:00:35
				very popular with many
people in the summertime,

				00:00:38
is a great place to splash and
play and float on a raft

				00:00:43
				But right now it looks
more like part of an

				00:00:44
				Ansel Adams photograph,

				00:00:46
				where our winter
world of Yosemite

				00:00:48
is done in black and white,

				00:00:50
				very different from
the summertime.

				00:01:04
We just come here every year.

				00:01:05
				We have a couple
of snow fights,

				00:01:06
we get on the hill a couple of
times, and it's just fun.

				00:01:10
				I just go fast man,
I just go like zoom.

				00:01:15
You see that cars come up and
they're loaded with sleds

				00:01:17
				and the kids have
their snowsuits on

				00:01:19
				their snow boots and
they're so excited

				00:01:20
				to just come
and see snow

				00:01:22
and for a lot of people
that come up here,

				00:01:24
				this is their first
time ever seeing snow,

				00:01:26
and so it's great to have
those people into the park

				00:01:30
				when they're prepared to drive
in the snowy mountains.

				00:01:34
				You know, cars slide
around out here

				00:01:37
				and that's what we're trying
to prevent with the chains.

				00:02:02
				So we're en route to
Badger Pass Ski Area,

				00:02:04
which is a downhill ski area
within Yosemite National Park.

				00:02:09
And so this is the road in the
wintertime where I get called

				00:02:14
to respond to the majority of
motor vehicle collisions.

				00:02:18
				Today we're expecting four
to seven inches of snow and

				00:02:23
				tomorrow morning two to three
feet of snow, above 6,000 feet.

				00:02:26
So we're expecting to see a
significant amount of snowfall.

				00:02:31
				People are on vacation,

				00:02:33
				they've had these vacations
planned for months,

				00:02:35
				and especially when
one of their goals

				00:02:39
is to go skiing in Yosemite,

				00:02:42
				they tend to come whether
the roads are good or bad.

				00:02:52
We're at Badger Pass Ski Area,

				00:02:54
				the oldest ski area in
the State of California,

				00:02:57
				and we're heading
up the lift right now

				00:02:59
				to go check
out the snow.

				00:03:01
When you see people come out who
have never seen snow before

				00:03:03
and they get up here and there's
snow caked on all the trees,

				00:03:06
like we have right now, there's
just something about that,

				00:03:10
				that moves people and changes
something inside them.

				00:03:13
I know snow has been a
major part of my life

				00:03:15
				since I grew up here,
